Rock -art stone-

This project introduces a barber shop into the ground floor of an old commercial building. Defined by vertical and horizontal lines, the structure symbolizes urban rationality, yet it is also a uniform box designed solely to function.

The project asks how a sense of freedom and natural presence can be restored within such a space.
As a reference, it draws on hikarizuke, an Edo-period carpentry technique that creates a subtle gap between a straight column and a natural stone, allowing light to pass through and soften rigidity. Could the strength and free, unshaped form of stone represent the spirit of today’s younger generation—unbound by fixed values and expectations?
Like a barber’s fade, which erases boundaries while revealing the character of the material, this sensibility is translated into space through organic, stone-like forms. The barber shop becomes a place that opens a new passage of light, where the sensibility of a new generation quietly inhabits the rigid box of the city.

本計画は、古い商業ビルの1階にバーバーショップを挿入する試みである。垂直と水平で構成された建物は、都市の合理性を象徴する一方で、「機能すること」だけを目的とした均質な箱でもある。この空間に、自由で自然な感覚をどのように取り戻せるか。
その着想として、江戸時代の大工技法「ひかりづけ」を参照した。真っすぐな柱と自然石の間にわずかな隙をつくり、光を通すことで、硬さと柔らかさを調和させる思想である。自然石の持つ強さと、削られない自由な形は、固定化された価値観に縛られない現代の若者の姿を重ね合わせることができるのではないだろうか。バーバーのフェードカットのように、境界を消しながら素材の個性を際立たせる職人の感覚を空間に重ね、石のように有機的なデザインとして表現した。このバーバーショップは、硬質な都市の箱に、若い世代の感性が息づく新たな光の通り道をつくる場である。

본 계획은 오래된 상업 빌딩 1층에 바버숍을 삽입하는 시도이다. 수직과 수평으로 구성된 건물은 도시의 합리성을 상징하는 동시에, 오직 ‘기능’만을 목적으로 한 균질한 상자이기도 하다. 이 공간에 자유롭고 자연스러운 감각을 어떻게 회복할 수 있을지를 질문한다. 그 실마리로 에도시대 목수의 기술인 ‘히카리즈케(光付け)’를 참조했다. 곧게 선 기둥과 자연석 사이에 미세한 틈을 두어 빛이 스며들게 하는 사고방식이다. 강인하면서도 자유로운 형태를 지닌 암석은, 고정된 가치관에 얽매이지 않는 현시대의 젊은이를 대변하는 존재가 아닐까. 바버의 페이드 커트처럼 경계를 지우며 소재의 개성을 드러내는 장인의 감각을 공간으로 확장해, 자연석과 같은 유기적인 디자인으로 구현했다. 이 바버숍은 경직된 도시의 상자 속에, 젊은 세대의 감각이 스며드는 새로운 빛의 통로를 만든다.
